2019 Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19)

Stop the Spread of Germs
Wear a Face Mask
In accordance with the recommendation from the Montgomery County Public Health District, students of all ages are required to wear a face covering as developmentally appropriate. For more information, please see the Letter of Advisement linked below.
Conroe ISD is monitoring the evolving situation regarding 2019 Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19). We work closely with the Montgomery County Public Health Department in communicable disease surveillance and follow the Communicable Disease Chart for Schools and Child-Care Centers from the Texas Department of State Health Services. We are aware of the positive cases of COVID-19 Montgomery County and the Greater-Houston area. Families are encouraged to visit the CDC website for more information and guidance regarding COVID-19.

District Communication
Conroe ISD is continuing to monitor the ever evolving status of COVID-19 in our community and is working closely with our local health authorities. We are aware of the presumptive positive case in Montgomery County as well as other confirmed positive cases in the greater Houston area. While students are not in class, the District continues to work to limit the spread of illness. In addition to the routine daily cleaning at our facilities, each campus is being deep cleaned with e-mist electrostatic sprayers as part of our five to seven day rotation in place since the beginning of February. All cleaning materials used by the District are known to fight COVID-19 as well as other illnesses. We will continue to learn more about COVID-19’s presence in our community in the coming days and will send another update Friday afternoon.
Conroe ISD Parents, Students, and Community,
When the 2019-2020 school year began, we never anticipated that we would be faced with our present situation. The arrival of COVID-19 brings with it uncharted territory and many unknowns. What is known is that the strength, compassion, and spirit of our students, employees, and community will get us through this.
My pledge is to always make decisions based on what’s best for kids. After participating in daily calls and discussions with State and local leaders along with area school districts and hospitals, I have made the difficult decision to close schools through April 10th with a plan to re-evaluate the situation on April 6th. We are not alone in this decision. School districts across the greater Houston area are communicating this same message to their communities this evening. We believe this step is essential in preventing the wider spread of COVID-19.
With this decision, there are a lot of details to work through, and our District and campus leaders including curriculum and technology experts are working diligently on plans to support the continued learning of our students during this time. We are fortunate to have a variety of resources available to us, and we will be working through the plans on how best to implement them. As we do this over the next few days, we ask for your patience. We want to establish structures that are sustainable while considering the many variables such as home internet access, student devices, and online learning resources.
We will be working to provide answers to the many questions you undoubtedly have. Please visit our COVID-19 webpage for regular updates along with our social media pages. Any major announcement will continue to be shared via our mass communication system as well.
Conroe ISD is described as a community of individuals working together to achieve the best for students. Now is no different. Please take care of yourself, your family, and each other.
Sincerely,
Dr. Curtis Null, Superintendent of Schools

Montgomery County Public Health District Notification
The Montgomery County Public Health District (MCPHD) notified the District that a 13-19 year old student attending school in the Oak Ridge Feeder Zone on Friday, March 6, 2020, has tested positive for COVID-19. According to our local health department, the student was not experiencing symptoms while at school, only developing symptoms during Spring Break, which would make any exposure risk to students or staff on Friday, March 6, 2020 very low. Due to privacy laws, we are unable to provide further details. The MCPHD will continue to manage the notification of any individuals as it pertains to COVID-19 exposure.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the virus is thought to spread mainly from person-to-person through close contact, within about six feet, through respiratory droplets when an infected person coughs or sneezes. Some spread might be possible before people show symptoms, but this is not thought to be the main way the virus spreads. Please contact your physician if you have questions regarding any risk of exposure or if you or your student develop any symptoms consistent with COVID-19 such as fever, cough, and difficulty breathing.
Prevention continues to be the best protection for this as well as reducing your risk of contracting other respiratory illness such as influenza.
- Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. If soap and water are not available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol.
- Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
- Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands.
- Stay home when you are sick.
- Cover your cough or sneeze with the inside of your elbow or a tissue and throw the tissue in the trash.
- Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces.
You can find more information regarding COVID-19 by visiting the CDC’s website. You can read the full press release from MCPHD on their website.
We continue to find our way through this uncharted situation and are grateful for the continuous outpouring of support from across our community. My pledge continues to be to always make decisions based on what’s best for our students. Thank you for all you are doing!
Sincerely,
Dr. Curtis Null
Superintendent of Schools
Conroe ISD Family,
As a result of the Executive Order issued by Governor Greg Abbott today, Conroe ISD will be closed until May 4th. While this extension delays the return to normalcy that we all long for, we know it is the right decision to protect the health of our Conroe ISD Family and greater community. During this time, we will continue the distance learning that is in place along with providing meals on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Please visit our social media sites and website for more information.
We ask that you reach out to your campuses if you have questions or needs during this time. All campuses have contact information posted on the top of their websites, and our employees are eager to help in any way.
Sincerely,
Dr. Curtis Null
Superintendent of Schools
Conroe ISD Family,
I hope this message finds you well. I am reaching out to share a few updates before we head into the long weekend.
As mentioned recently during a Facebook Live chat, District and campus administrators along with curriculum experts have been developing grading guidelines for the fourth nine-weeks. These guidelines provide that students will not be placed at a disadvantage as a result of the current situation and the fourth nine-weekâs grade will not be lower than the third nine-week’s grade. To view the complete grading guidelines documents for elementary/intermediate and secondary, please visit our Policies, Handbooks, and Forms webpage.
We will continue distributing meals for students on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10 AM – 1 PM at Austin Elementary, Caney Creek High School, Conroe High School, Grand Oaks High School, Hauke High School, Knox Junior High, Oak Ridge High School, The Woodlands College Park High School, The Woodlands High School, and Washington Junior High. We are working to promote social distancing and will be placing meals in the trunks of vehicles if an interior trunk release is available.
Our next Facebook Live is scheduled for Monday, April 13, at 6 PM. If you missed previous Facebook Live chats, you can watch them on Facebook or the District’s YouTube Channel.
Finally, I want to leave you with this video of some of our choir students. This extended time apart is a challenge, and we look forward to the time we can be happy together again.
Stay safe,
Dr. Curtis Null
