Hiring Process in Conroe ISD
Once you have been recommended for a position in Conroe ISD, the Human Resources Department will initiate these steps to process the recommendation. If you are being hired as a substitute, the process is slightly different. Please see the Substitute New Hire Information page for more information on the hiring process for substitutes.

Email is our primary method of communication with you during the hiring process. Please make sure the email address in your application is accurate. Check your email frequently to ensure you receive information in a timely manner.
You may start work in Conroe ISD once you have attended the New Hire Orientation meeting at the Human Resources Department, which is located at 3205 West Davis Street, Conroe, TX 77304. You are not cleared to begin working before Human Resources meets in person with you and clears you to begin working.
There are a number of steps that must be completed prior to your start date, including the background check, education/certification/license checks, if necessary, onboarding paperwork, and the New Hire Orientation meeting.
Once the Human Resources Department has completed the background check, verified your education/certificate/license, if necessary, and received your completed electronic new hire paperwork, you will be contacted via email by a Human Resources representative to attend a New Hire Orientation Meeting. You must attend a meeting in order to complete the hiring process and to be eligible to begin work.
Where are New Hire Orientation Meetings Held? New Hire Orientation Meetings are held at the Deane L. Sadler Administration/Technology Center, located at 3205 West Davis Street, Conroe, Texas 77304, which is across the street from Conroe High School. Upon arriving for the New Hire Orientation meeting, check in with the receptionist.
What should I bring to the New Hire Orientation Meeting? You will need to bring the following documents with you:
- Original Social Security card (for payroll purposes) – Conroe ISD will use the name as it appears on your Social Security card for our official records.
- Documents that satisfy the I-9 form requirements. Acceptable documents are listed in the instructions for the I-9 form and may also be found in the Frequently Asked Questions section of this page.
- Original service records from prior district(s) so that you may be given credit for your creditable years of service. Original service records must be received by Human Resources within 60 days of your hire date.
- Official transcripts/high school diploma (if necessary), if you have not already provided to the Human Resources Department.
What happens at the New Hire Orientation Meeting? The following will take place at the New Hire Orientation Meeting:
- Work authorization documents (I-9 form) will be verified.
- Pre-employment affidavit will be completed.
- District email password will be established.
- Employment Contract OR Letter of Reasonable Assurance will be electronically signed.
- Your picture will be taken, and your employee ID badge will be created.
- Rate and start date will be communicated to you.
- Basic employment information, including benefits information, will be presented.
Salary or rate of pay is determined by your creditable years of service on file. Ensure that you obtain your original service records from your prior district(s). Any out of state service must be verified on a Texas service record, which you may find in the Important Information for All New Hires section of this page. Once all of your original service records have been submitted, verify that the correct salary or rate of pay has been applied. Wages are set annually by the Conroe ISD Board of Trustees.

The term “highly qualified” was repealed with the passage of the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) in December 2015. In its place, ESSA requires teachers and paraprofessionals to be certified and licensed according to each state’s standards. However, within the text of ESSA is a list of various assurances that the state educational agency, the Texas Education Agency (TEA) in our case, must make in its state plan when the agency submits to the federal department of education.
One of the assurances affects how school districts can hire certain paraprofessionals working in a Title I, Part A program, including qualifications that were in place the day before December 10, 2015. According to Tim Regal, TEA’s Director of Instructional Leadership, this means the previous highly qualified standards for paraprofessionals working in Title I, Part A programs will remain in place.
That is, instructional paraprofessionals working in Title I schools must meet “highly qualified” status, which means the paraprofessional must meet one of the following standards:
- Completion of two years of higher education, generally defined as 48 semester credit hours;
- An Associate’s (or higher) degree; or
- Knowledge and ability to assist in instruction of reading or reading readiness, writing or writing readiness, and math or math readiness, as demonstrated through a formal state or local assessment.
Conroe ISD offers a local assessment that can be taken in the Human Resources Department. If you have been recommended for an instructional paraprofessional position at a Title I campus, Human Resources will contact you regarding how you might meet the required “highly qualified” standards.
