College Park AP Superstar Hits Perfect Score

Conroe ISD will soon be introducing its High School Journalism Network, which will include a monthly roundup of the top features from around the District. Journalism students will also be producing stories, such as the one below, and content from their feeder zones for the District website and to be shared with local media outlets.

THE WOODLANDS, TEXAS (October 3, 2023) – Zachary Thibodeaux, a senior in the Academy of Science and Technology at College Park High School, received his results back from the AP Environmental Sciences exam he took in May and was the only student globally to earn a perfect score.

While many receive the top score of 5 on the exam, Thibodeaux was the only student around the world to earn every point possible. This is the first time any student at College Park has scored this highly on the AP Environmental Sciences Exam, and no one across the globe scored perfectly last year.

“Zachary’s accomplishment is outstanding,” Principal Mark Murrell said. “The AP exams are very challenging and for a student to achieve a perfect score on any exam is amazing. I am extremely proud of him and all the effort that he gives on a daily basis. This is a great honor for Zachary, our school, and programs.”

Thibodeaux spent last year in AP Environmental Sciences with teacher Larissa Coffee who prepared her classes for the exam.

“I want to thank my teacher, Mrs. Coffee, for all her help in preparing for the exam and for explaining the content extremely well throughout the school year,” Thibodeaux said.

To prepare for the exam, Thibodeaux’s class took trips to the Jones State Forest where they went on scavenger hunts for items. The hunts helped the students understand local examples of the items in the Environmental Sciences syllabus.

Zachary spent his time preparing for the exam by utilizing practice questions from his Princeton Review book, reviewing his notes from class, and practicing FRQs.

“(The perfect score) cemented my plans to study environmental engineering next year in college and eventually pursue a career in this field,” Thibodeaux said. “I proved to myself that I have a solid foundation in topics related to the environment and improved my confidence that I had chosen a field that aligns with my knowledge and skills.”

College Park is extremely proud of Zachary and his determination in school, and we cannot wait to see where his greatness takes him.
