Every October, Cybersecurity Awareness Month serves as a reminder that we all play a role in staying safe and secure online.
Technology is an important part of how we learn, work, communicate, and connect with one another. As our digital lives continue to grow, so does the importance of protecting our accounts, personal information, and devices.
Throughout October, Conroe ISD Technology will be sharing simple, practical tips to help students, families, employees, and our community make safer choices online. Each week, we'll highlight a different cybersecurity topic and provide steps you can use at school, at work, and at home.
Cybersecurity doesn't have to be complicated. Small habits such as pausing before clicking a suspicious link, protecting your passwords, thinking carefully about what you share online, and using new technologies responsibly can make a big difference.
Cybersecurity Topic of the Week
Pause Before You Click
Phishing and online scams aren't limited to suspicious emails anymore. They can arrive through text messages, social media, QR codes, shared documents, and even messages that appear to come from someone you know.
Before clicking a link, opening an attachment, scanning an unexpected QR code, or entering your password, take a moment to consider what you're being asked to do.
Be especially cautious when a message:
Creates a sense of urgency or pressure.
Asks you to provide a password or personal information.
Promises a prize, refund, or unexpected reward.
Claims there's a problem with an account or delivery.
Contains a link or QR code you weren't expecting.
Comes from someone you know but seems unusual or out of character.
When you're unsure, don't use the link in the message. Instead, go directly to the organization's website or app, or contact the person or organization using information you already trust.
A few extra seconds before you click can help protect your accounts, your information, and the people around you.
