Campus Updates: May 11 – 17

Broadway Elementary
Broadway is a very busy place these last few days of school.  Next week our third a fourth grade students will be taking the STAAR test on Monday and Tuesday.

Then on Friday, May 13, we are hosting our annual Career Day.  We have 30 presenters scheduled throughout the day to share about their careers with our students.

Our Field Days are going to be on Monday May 16 from 8:30-10:30 a.m. for kindergarten through first grade and on Tuesday, May 17, from 8:30-11 a.m. for our second through fourth grade.

Then on Thursday, May 19, our honor choir will be giving a concert to the school.

Cryar Intermediate
Congratulations to Wilmer Barillas, Kaustubh Mahimkar, Asia Washington, Riley Auld, Bailey Johnston and Anjaya Washington for each receiving a reward from the Purrr-fect Attendance Incentive Program.

STAAR testing on Wednesday, May 11. No deliveries will be made to students on these dates.

Sixth graders who are participating in sports activities at Peet can get a required physical on Tuesday, May 17. All physical and permission forms must be fully completed, signed and accompanied by the student’s payment of $20 cash in order for the student to be sent to CHS on Tuesday.
David Elementary
The teachers and staff at David Elementary would like to invite all of our wonderful volunteers who make David so successful to a Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon. The Luncheon will be Tuesday, May 17 from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. to honor our volunteers.

 

Giesinger Elementary
May 17 and 18 will be End of Year Benchmarks for first through fourth grades.

May 17, Tuesday, our students will be taking the Science benchmark, and Wednesday they will take the Social Studies Benchmark.

Thank you to our wonderful PTO for treating staff during Teacher Appreciation Week!  Staff received morning coffee, fun school supplies, flowers, and a great lunch.

Mark your calendars for Field Day!  Tuesday, May 24 will be Field Day for EE, PreK, kindergarten, first, and second grades.

Wednesday, May 25 will be Field Day for third and fourth grades.

 

Glen Loch Elementary
Thank you Spring Creek Barbeque for the generous donation to our Parent Teacher Organization of $1,200 from the last gator takeover night.

There will be a 1970’s Disco themed End of the Year Dance on Friday, May 13 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. put on by the Parent Teacher Organization. This is not a drop off event and parents need to stay with their children. Volunteers are needed for the potluck dinner during the dance.

The next Gator Takeover will be at Mama Juanita’s Restaurant on 242 on Tuesday, May 17. Register your kindergartener for school next year online. Refer to the Glen Loch Elementary website for more information.

Field Day is coming soon on Friday, May 20 and will need many volunteers.

 

Hailey Elementary
Tuesday, May 17 is Cool Comet Awards at 6 p.m. in the school cafeteria. Please join us in celebrating our art, literary, and poetry winners in this annual contest.

Spirit Night at Chick-Fil-A will be Tuesday, May 17.

Congratulations to Mrs. DeMetropolis’, Mrs. Doan’s, Ms. Chalmers’, Mrs. Suire’s, and Mrs. Haas’ classes for achieving their 10 Sailboat Awards this week. Attendance every day and all day helps students learn better.

Looking ahead, Celebration Day will be Friday, May 20, to celebrate our academic success. The students celebrate their academic achievements with indoor and outdoor activities. This day is only possible because of parent volunteers. We need volunteers to share a few hours to make it all work. Students can bring aluminum cans, foil, pans, and aluminum computer parts for recycling every Friday morning for our Cash for Cans program, which also helps support our school. Please deliver recyclables to the front porch when arriving at school.

 

Kaufman Elementary
The building will still be closed to visitors Wednesday, May 11 through Friday, May 13, due to STAAR testing.

Friday, May 13, second graders will be participating in their annual pen factory. Family and friends have pre-ordered pens that students will be making in order to raise money for a deserving local charity.

Although Children’s Book Week is celebrated on May 2 – 6, students and faculty at Kaufman will be celebrating on Monday, May 16 through Friday, May 20.  Each day will be a different theme associated with books and reading.  The library will also host its last Accelerated Reader store during this week.  Students have been reading and taking quizzes, acquiring points they use to purchase items from the store.

Tuesday, May 17, Junior Achievement students from Oak Ridge High School will be visiting all first grade classrooms, teaching students about needs and wants.

 

McCullough Junior High
Our final round of STAAR testing for this year is May 9 – May 12. The exam schedule can be found on our website in the Bell Schedules/Calendars folder. Students need to bring a jacket, a sack lunch, a bottle of water, and a book to read after finishing. Cell phones are not permitted and, if caught with one, students will receive an automatic referral and their scores may not be counted. Study hard and be prepared! Good luck!

McCullough Color Guard try-outs will be held May 18 through May 20 in the McCullough gym. Tryout times will be from 4:30 p.m. until 6 p.m. Students must have a properly completed audition packet returned to the McCullough front office no later than Monday, May 16 at 5 p.m. An audition meeting for students and parents/guardians will occur on Wednesday, May 11, at 5 p.m. in the Commons LGI on the McCullough campus. Mitchell Intermediate
Fifth grade students will take the Science STAAR on Wednesday, May 11.

LCs 7, 8 and 9 will present their Envision Expo projects on Thursday, May 12 at 8 a.m.

The Spring Choir Concert will be held at McCullough Junior High on Thursday, May 12 beginning at 7:30 p.m.

The Mitchell Choir will participate in the Choral Festival followed by a fun time at Incredible Pizza on Friday, May 13.

LC 7 will host “Muffins w/Mom & Doughnuts for Dad” on Friday, May 13 at 8 a.m.

LC 1 will go to Ball Metal Beverage Packaging facility in Conroe on Monday, May 16.

Mitchell will host its annual Instrument Evaluation Night on Monday, May 16 and Tuesday, May 17 from 5 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. in the school Commons and Fine Arts hallway.

The Scholastic “Buy One, Get One Free” book fair will be held the week of May 16-20. Hours for the fair will be 8:30-4:30 daily. This is a great time to get loaded up on reading material for the summer!

Fifth grade students will take the EOY Social Studies Bench on Tuesday, May 17.

 

Reaves Elementary
Fourth grade visits the Symphony on May 18 and Cryar Intermediate on May 19.

Please join us in the cafeteria for our first grade program, Lemonade, on May 12 at 6 p.m.

All Library books are due on May 18.

 

Rice Elementary
The Rice Parent Appreciation Breakfast will be held on Wednesday, May 25 from 7:30 a.m. until 8:30 a.m.

Rice third graders will display their GT Expo projects on Wednesday, May 25 from 11 a.m. until noon.

On Thursday, May 26 Rice kindergarten through third grade students will have their Field Day.

 

Snyder Elementary
Many exciting events are coming up this month at Snyder.  Fourth graders and first graders will be enjoying field trips (various dates).

Second graders will be performing their program for the school as well as their parents (May 19 at 9 a.m. and 6:30 p.m.).

Third graders will also be presenting their Trash to Treasure projects (May 24 at 1:30 p.m.).   Be sure to mark the dates on your calendar!

 

Wilkinson Elementary
Muffins with Mom Friday, May 13 at 7 a.m.

Spirit store open Friday, May 13 at 7:30 a.m.

Kindergarten orientation for the 2016-2017 school year I s Monday, May 16 at 6 p.m.

All books are due back to the library Tuesday, May 17.

Wilkerson Intermediate
Wednesday, May 11 is the fifth grade STAAR science.

The fifth grade “Kick the STAAR” Tournament will be Friday, May 13.

The sixth grade Social Studies benchmark test will be Monday, May 16.

The Choir Spring Concert will be Monday, May 16 at 7 p.m.

The sixth grade band will be performing at the Cavalier Band Fest on Tuesday, May 17.
