Conroe ISD recognizes that parents and guardians hold an essential role in the education of their children and have the right to guide what their children read, as set forth in Education Code 94 Chapter 26. Parents and guardians can restrict or opt-out their child from checking out specific library books using the online forms below.

Written parental permission is required for students to access books needed for AP, dual-credit, or college-level courses if those materials are not part of the standard school library collection. The Parent Permission for AP and Dual Credit Courses Form is linked below.

Parents and/or Guardians can access their child's Classroom Libraries through their teacher's Canvas or Seesaw course.

New Library materials recommended for purchase will be posted for 30 days prior to purchase on the Library Services webpage to give staff, students, parents, and community members an opportunity to review and comment on the materials prior to purchase. Comments must be submitted by completing the District’s form, which can be found at the link below. All comments received within the 30-day comment period will be reviewed and considered prior to finalizing the purchase. The posting will be updated as purchase orders are submitted.

Any parent/guardian of a Conroe ISD student, District employee, or District resident may submit a written challenge against a library material. Challenges must be filed using the official Texas Education Agency (TEA) form linked below. The form requires the person submitting the form to identify how the challenged library material violates the standards approved under Texas Education Code  33.021.

Forms can be submitted to the Coordinator of Library Services at library@conroeisd.net or delivered to the District administrative office.

The Board of Trustees shall take action on a written challenge at the first open meeting of the Board held after the 90th day on which school district receives a written challenge.

• Who Can Appeal: Any parent of an enrolled student, District employee, or District resident can file an appeal regarding the Board's final decision on a book challenge.

• 2-Year Waiting Period: Once the Board makes a final decision to keep or remove a book, that decision is locked for two years. The Board cannot take action on any new appeal regarding that book until the two-year mark passes.

The following titles were reviewed at the District level through the Informal reconsideration process as set out in Board Policy EFB Local Instructional Resources-Library Materials (November 2023). Books that do not meet the selection criteria set out in Board Policy EFB Local, or that have low circulation, are in poor physical condition or that are dated are removed from library collections. The references to selection criteria numbers below will reflect the selection criteria of the policy in effect at the time the review occurred.

The following titles have been weeded at the District level in compliance with Board Policy EMB(Local) which took effect July 2025.

In accordance with the Children’s Internet Protection Act (CIPA), the District utilizes technology protection measures to block and filter access to visual depictions and materials that are obscene, pornographic, or harmful to minors.
