CONROE, Texas – Six Conroe ISD students have been recognized as outstanding leaders of service within their communities after successfully completing the Education in Action’s 2024-2025 Lone Star Leadership Academy Alumni Council.
“I faced challenges that tested my determination, and overcoming them taught me the value of perseverance,” said Oak Ridge High School student Ayomide Bamgbose. “The experience reminded me that even small actions can have a lasting impact.”
These six students – Ayomide Bamgbose, Catarina Perez, Regan Matte, Jaelyn Moore, Johnny Nale, and Niomi Sanchez – were among the 125 students within Texas who participated in the leadership and service program. The Alumni Council is designed to equip students with skills for designing, creating, and managing their own service project.
Over the course of the 2024-2025 school year these students identified issues within his/her community that they were passionate about, created an initiative targeted at helping the cause, and led at least two other people through the service project. Projects served a variety of causes including Christ the Rock Chapel Food Pantry, Baily’s Backpacks, Rape Abuse and Incest National Network (RAINN), Montgomery County Animal Shelter, people in need, and underprivileged college students.
“The experience showed me that when we combine our efforts for a good cause, we can make a meaningful difference in others’ lives,” said Oak Ridge High School student Johnny Nale. “Knowing our work would help students afford college gave me a profound sense of purpose and strengthened my confidence as a leader.”
Centered on guiding the next generation the Lone Star Leadership Academy Alumni Council’s mission remains distinct: “to empower young people to be informed and active leaders in their communities,” said in a statement issued by Education in Action.
