Wilkinson Student Council Hosts Conroe City Council for Special Session
CONROE, TEXAS (May 12, 2023) – The Wilkinson Elementary Fourth Grade Student Council hosted the City of Conroe City Council in a simulated meeting Friday in the school cafeteria.
The group of nearly 30 students each presented part of a proposal for a recycling campaign at Wilkinson. While Conroe ISD maintains recycling containers on each campus, the students requested support for additional signage in the hallways to remind their fellow students not only to recycle, but what items can be recycled and how to properly dispose of them.
The City Council was represented by Mayor Pro Tem Curt Maddux, councilmen Todd Yancey and Howard Wood, as well as City Secretary Soco Gorjon and Acting City Attorney Michael Garner.
The event was a collaboration between the City of Conroe and Conroe ISD, so the students could see how local government works and encourage the community to participate and vote.
