Marianne Horton was elected to the Conroe ISD Board of Trustees in November 2024. A seventh-generation Texan, she graduated from James E. Taylor High School in Katy ISD. She received a journalism degree from Texas A&M University while also obtaining a secondary teaching certification. Horton wrote and edited for local publications before teaching high school English in Spring Branch ISD.
Education runs in Horton’s blood. Her parents met while working in Houston ISD with her mother retiring from Alief ISD after 25 years as a school nurse. Horton’s sister was a teacher and then a counselor for many years in Conroe ISD, and it was her enthusiasm that brought the Horton family to the district in 2017.
Horton and her husband, Kevin, have been married for 20 years have two children. Both have participated in the gifted and talented program since elementary school.
Horton’s district involvement includes teaching language arts at McCullough Junior High, serving on the PTO boards of Birnham Woods Elementary and McCullough Junior High, working as a long-term substitute at Grand Oaks High School, serving on the 2023 Bond Planning Committee, chairing the mental health subcommittee for the Student Health Advisory Council and mentoring a student through Project Mentor.
While currently working as a district substitute, Horton also works as a freelance writer, managing a photography business, and a vacation rental.
