Each year, high school counselors are asked to identify ninth grade students to invite to participate in CISD’s STAR program — Students Together Achieving Results.
STAR has grown from a small summer event to a year-round program where students can learn about themselves and how to plan for their future. STAR students hold monthly meetings as well as make visits to community colleges, technical schools, and four-year colleges. Students may also visit job sites, complete community service, hear motivational speakers, and participate a team building challenge course. The program is designed to build strong relationships between counselors and students; counselors meet with their STAR students regularly to give them support as it relates to their high school potential, as well as post-secondary opportunities.
