Conroe ISD Named Best Communities for Music Education for Sixth Year in a Row

The Conroe Independent School District was honored at the April 18 Board meeting for receiving the National Association of Music Merchants (NAMM) Foundation Best Communities for Music Education (BCME) Award for the sixth year in a row. The NAMM Foundation is a non-profit organization committed to advancing music education through active participation.

“Let me begin by thanking you, our CISD Board of Trustees, for your support of the Fine Arts that allows opportunities like this to be possible,” stated Dr. Robert Horton, Conroe ISD Coordinator of Fine Arts, as he shared about the award. “Of the 14,000 potential applicants and over 2,000 school districts that applied, Conroe ISD was selected as one of the 476 in the nation to earn this designation.”

Board Member John Husband remarked, “We want to say thank you to you and your staff and all of the teachers that make such a difference and are so committed to the education of our children.”

Established in 1999, the BCME survey is a nationwide search for communities who provide access to music education as an essential part of a complete education and exemplify commitment and support for music education. The eighteenth annual survey measured a variety of factors, including budgetary commitment to music, opportunities to learn music, the presence of highly qualified, certified music teachers, adherence to state and national standards, types of musical experiences offered and opportunities for performance and competition, among others. A community had to show that they are committed to access and high standards for music education in all areas to be named a Best Community.
