Approximately fifty seniors from Conroe ISD’s six high schools were honored at the Mid-Year Graduation Ceremony held at Conroe High School on Thursday, December 15, 2016.

Each campus was represented in the ceremony. Selena Lott, Hauke High School, introduced the Conroe High School Army JROTC who presented the Colors; Kevin Cox, Conroe High School, and Skylar Smethers, Caney Creek High School, led the pledges; and Tareq Issa, The Woodlands College Park High School, Sadie Yoxall, The Woodlands High School, and Kathryn Wheelwright, Oak Ridge High School, offered words of welcome, encouragement and congratulations.

In her remarks to the graduates, Ms. Yoxall stated, “Ahead of all of us lies a new journey, possibly scarier than the last, but it is now our time to make our mark on this world.” She concluded with a quote from Dr. Seuss, “You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself any direction you choose. You’re on your own. And you know what you know. And YOU are the one who’ll decide where to go.”

Just before the end of the awarding of diplomas, Deputy Superintendent of Schools Dr. Curtis Null took to the stage to introduce a special graduate.

“Over 50 years ago, a young man walked down the hallways of this very Conroe High School and made a sacrifice like many of his classmates did in his generation. He chose to serve his country and make the personal sacrifice that kept him from receiving his high school diploma at that time. He went on to serve in the United States Navy, and today he is back,” stated Dr. Null. “It is our honor as the Conroe Independent School District along with everyone in the Conroe community to recognize the final graduate of the night from Conroe High School, Michael Earle Sharpe.”

Mr. Sharpe, who left high school to join the Navy and serve in the Vietnam War, received a standing ovation from the graduating class and the audience as he received his diploma from Conroe ISD Superintendent, Dr. Stockton.

Prior to the start of the ceremony, attendees were treated music performed by The Woodlands College Park High School Orchestra.
