Conroe ISD Board of Trustees Recognize State Champions
The Conroe Independent School District Board of Trustees gave special recognition to three State Champions at their meeting on March 22, 2016.
Monica Gumina, a sophomore at The Woodlands College Park High School, won the 2016 6A Girls’ 100-Yard Freestyle State Championship at the Texas Swim Center in Austin on Saturday, February 20, 2016 when she finished the race in 50.21 seconds.
That same day, Victoria Hunt, a junior at The Woodlands College Park High School, won the 2016 6A Girls’ 100-Yard Breaststroke State Championship at the Texas Swim Center in Austin when she finished the race in 1:03.91 seconds. The Woodlands High School College Park Principal, Dr. Mark Murrell, introduced these young women and her coach, Rachel Banes.
Also recognized at the meeting was The Woodlands High School’s Lucie Nordmann who won the 2016 6A Girls’ 50-Yard Freestyle State Championship at the tournament when she finished the race in 23.09 seconds. She also won her second consecutive 6A Girls’ 100-Yard Backstroke State Championship when she finished the race in 53.34 seconds, .04 seconds faster than her 2015 state championship time. The Woodlands High School Principal, Mr. Gregg Colschen, introduced Lucie and her coach, Kent Kirchner.
After presenting the students with their plaques, Trustee Datren Williams commented, “It is such a privilege to see such fine student athletes. You represent our district in such a great way. We’d just like to say thank you.”
