Campus Updates: March 30 – April 5

Broadway Elementary School
Thursday, March 31 our first through second grade students are presenting a Reading Restaurant for their parents from 6-7 p.m.

Our kindergarten students are presenting a Reading Night, also on Thursday, March 31 from 6-7 p.m. Kindergarten parents will be given the opportunity to “make and take” home various activities that they can do with their child to help them practice their reading skills.

The following students received a Principal High Five award: Audrey Martin, Jordan Howard, Jackson Morris, Layli Netterville, Ryan Marquis, Riley Brashears, Jayden Smith, Sam Ferrar, Athen Hart, Ty Ackley, Jenna Meader, Sonya Gordon, Ashton Leggett, Emily Walton, Caleb Call, Brandon Villareal, Kaitlyn Belcher and Davin Luck.

Buckalew Elementary School
The Always There Bears is a special award given each month for the best grade level attendance. Our “Always there Bears” for February are: Kindergarten – Mrs. Clary’s Class first grade – Mrs. Ramirez’s Class second grade – Mrs. Senger’s Class third grade – Mrs. Garrett’s Class fourth grade – Mrs. Hveem’s Class.

March is Youth Art Month! Our school feeder zone is having a month long art display at the Mitchell Library to celebrate. Some of our own Buckalew artists will have their work on display as well. You can see art from Veeru Riar (Kindergarten, Layla Lebwohl (first grade), Ashley Castille (second grade), and June Lee (fourth grade). Thank-you for your hard work in art and congratulations on being selected to represent Buckalew.
Bush Elementary School
Due to STAAR make-ups and other testing, our campus will remain closed to visitors March 30-April 1.

The week of April 4 is Kindergarten Roundup. Should you or anyone you know have a child who turns 5 on or before September 1, and will be starting kindergarten in the Fall of 2016, you may pick up and return registration packets beginning this week.

Collins Intermediate School
Fifth grade Colossal Cobra Awards ceremony will be held at 3 p.m. in the library on March 31.

The due date for the Collins Cobra Scholarship is April 1.
Cox Intermediate School
Timberwolf teachers are Recognizing Our Committed Kids. Teachers are keeping their eyes out for students who are making great choices in behavior. Congratulations to the following students, you rock. Creighton Elementary School
Friday, April 1, first grade students will visit Seven Acre Woods. Students will visit the petting zoo, western play town, and have a picnic lunch.

The week of April 4-8 is Kindergarten Roundup from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., with late day registration on Thursday, April 7 from 1 – 6 p.m.

Inline Skating 101 will begin March 31 in physical education for all third and fourth grade students with a signed permission slip.

Cryar Intermediate School
Congratulations to Ava Azua, Khrysta-Ann Haylett, Jaden Torres, Riley Auld, Daisy Nickless and Madeline Guinn for each receiving a reward from the Purrr-fect Attendance Incentive Program.

Fifth graders have STAAR testing on Wednesday, March 30, in reading. No lunch deliveries for fifth or sixth graders will be accepted on these days. Because of the fifth grade math STAAR test being given on Tuesday, March 29, the usual Tuesday folder for that week will be sent home on Thursday, March 31. Report cards will be included in this Tuesday folder.

Student council will begin their spring community service project on Monday, April 4. We will be collecting old and new shoes to help Animal Shelter Volunteers of Texas and Conroe Animal Shelter. Students can put their shoe donations in the collection box in their learning community’s math classroom. The learning community with the most pairs of shoes collected will earn a special treat from student council. The goal is to collect 100 bags of shoes, which contain 25 pairs each.

David Elementary School
The David Elementary first grade program, “It’s a Small World” will be held on Thursday, April 7 at 2 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. Please join us for this fun program!

Galatas Elementary School
We will be holding a Spirit Night at Kendra Scott on Market Street, Thursday evening, March 31, from 6-8 p.m. Mention Galatas at checkout and 20% of each sale will be donated back to our wonderful school!

The PTO Board Meeting will be held on April 5 at 10 a.m. in the PTO Room.

Giesinger Elementary School
The PTO spring fundraiser continues. Students will be taking orders for trash bags through April 1. Trash bags can be purchased in three sizes and multiple colors. Please help support our PTO and school with this fundraiser.

Kindergarten Round Up is April 4 -8. Kindergarten registration is for children who are 5 years old on or before September 1, 2016. Information and forms will be available in the front office.

Our fourth graders will be taking a field trip Monday, April 4. This is a rescheduled date due to weather on the previously scheduled date.

On Friday, March 11, our Third Nine Weeks N.E.A.T. Kids (Never Ever Absent or Tardy) were treated to Kona Ice. There were 195 students from PreK through fourth graders who received this award!

Glen Loch Elementary School
There will be a Gator Takeover of Spring Creek Barbeque on Thursday, March 31 from 5 to 9 p.m.

The Parent Teacher Organization meeting will be held on Monday April 4 at 7 p.m. when there will be an election of the board members for next year. Kindergarten Roundup takes place during the week of April 4. Register your kindergartener for next year. Refer to the Glen Loch Elementary website for more information.

Hailey Elementary School
Second grade presents their music program Thursday, March 31 at 6 p.m. in the school cafeteria. Second graders should report to the music room at 5:40 p.m. that evening to warm up for the performance.

Friday, April 1, the school store will be open on the stage during all lunch periods.

April 4-8 will be the annual Kindergarten Round-up Registration. Children who are five years old by September 1, 2016, are eligible to attend kindergarten.

Parents of current fourth graders are invited to attend the information night for incoming fifth graders at Wilkerson Intermediate School. The event is scheduled for Tuesday, April 5 at 6:30 p.m. in the Wilkerson cafeteria.

Congratulations to Mrs. Shaw’s, Mrs. Nordenstam’s, Mrs. Hiser’s, and Mrs. Tomasek’s classes for achieving their 10 Sailboat Awards this week.

Attendance every day and all day helps students learn better.

Please label your child’s jackets, coats, sweaters, hats, gloves, and lunch boxes with their first and last name. Many items in our Lost & Found collection do not have the owner’s name. Parents are encouraged to visit our Lost & Found when on campus. Many items have accumulated and will soon be donated to charity.

Help us make a change to our school playground with your spare change. From now until the end of April, change will be collected by each grade level for the Playground Project. You can help by sending in your spare change to school with your child. Students can bring aluminum cans, foil, pans, and aluminum computer parts for recycling every Friday morning for our Cash for Cans program, which also helps support our school. Please deliver recyclables to the front porch when arriving at school.

Kaufman Elementary School
The building will continue to be closed to visitors, Wednesday, March 30 through Friday, April 1, due to STAAR testing.

On Friday, April 1, Kindergarten and Life Skills will take a field trip to visit Old MacDonald’s Farm.

Also this week, the students will be able to shop at the Accelerated Reader store. Students have been reading books, taking quizzes and earning points to shop.

Oak Ridge High School
Congratulations to Jennifer Ramirez who took 4th Place in the High School Girl’s Powerlifter State competition last Friday, March 18, in Corpus Christi, Texas! Jennifer lifted a total of 915 pounds (345 squats+190 bench press+380 dead lift).

Congratulations to sophomore Jennifer Nguyen who made it to finals in the Original Oratory at the National Qualifier Tournament held on Saturday, March 5.

Powell Elementary School
Spring Pictures will be taken April 1.

Students who qualified as Never Ever Absent or Tardy (NEAT) students will attend a snow cone party April 1.

Kindergarten Round-up will take place on our campus April 4 through April 6. We will accept registration packets at the front desk April 4 through April 6, 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. and in the Gym April 9, 4:30 – 6 p.m.

Reaves Elementary School
Congratulations to all the students who received the Reaves Honor Award for best citizenship. They will be treated to lunch with parents in the cafeteria Thursday, March 31 sponsored by Whataburger.

Rice Elementary School
B B Rice will conduct our yearly Kindergarten Round Up the week of Monday, April 4.

The Specials Team at Rice invites everyone to our Spectrum of Fun night on Thursday, April 7 from 5:30 pm until 7 p.m.

The Rice PTO will sponsor a Mother/Son Dance on Friday, April 15 from 6-8 p.m.

Snyder Elementary School
Please join us Saturday, April 2 for our Snyder Derby and Carnival. Check the Snyder website for more information. We hope to see you there!
