On Tuesday, the Conroe Independent School District Board of Trustees recognized Austin Elementary Teacher Irene Alcazar for her life-saving actions.

Ms. Alcazar, a third grade bilingual teacher, jumped into action on Wednesday, August 24 when a student at Austin Elementary began choking on a grape at lunch. Ms. Alcazar was on lunch duty with her class when she realized something was wrong with one of her students. She quickly responded by dislodging the grape on which the student was choking saving the student’s life.

Dr. Serena Pierson, Austin Elementary Principal, presented Ms. Alcazar to the Board. Trustee Ray Sanders offered remarks on behalf of the Board thanking Ms. Alcazar.
