STAR Students Recognized by CISD Board of Trustees

The Conroe Independent School District Board of Trustees gave special recognition to students who participated in the Students Together Achieving Results (STAR) Program at their meeting last Tuesday night.

As the eighth group of participants to graduate from the program, the graduating seniors were recognized for their commitment, hard work, and persistence while participating in STAR.

Each year, high school counselors are asked to identify ninth grade students to invite to participate in STAR. The counselors then meet with their STAR students regularly to give them the support as it relates to their academics and post-secondary opportunities. The program is designed to build strong relationships between the counselors and the students while exposing them to more opportunities to learn about themselves and plan for their futures. STAR has grown from a summer program to a year-round program of monthly meetings and includes visits to community colleges, technical schools and four-year colleges.  Students also participate in activities at CISD’s Challenge Course that promote leadership, team building, and character development.

Veronica Martin, College and Career Readiness Specialist, introduced the counselors who work with these very special students. Trustee Ray Sanders presented each student with a certificate on behalf of the Board. In his closing remarks to the students, Mr. Sanders quoted Ralph Waldo Emerson saying, “Do not go where the path may lead. Go instead where there is no path and leave a trail.”
