Founded in 1987, the Academy is a member of the National Consortium for Specialized STEM Schools (NCSSS) and currently enrolls over 280 students in grades 9- 12. Academy students graduate from The Woodlands College Park High School, but take math, science, computer science, and most technology courses within the Academy. The Academy requires an exceptional commitment on the part of students and parents. The program is rigorous, requiring time outside the school day, significant project work, and an internship.

Academy Vision:

Students who graduate from the Academy of Science and Technology will be socially responsible citizens who work to improve the world.

Academy Commitment:

We commit that our vision, mission, and beliefs will drive our decisions set in a context of continuous improvement.

Academy Goals:

• To develop an ethical learning community
• To offer students specialized courses in mathematics, science, and computer science
• To provide a classroom environment that is stimulating while rigorous and which maximizes opportunity for all students to succeed
• To develop positive self-concepts in students through meeting individual and group challenges

• To support students as they conduct research and participate in science fairs and other competitions in science, mathematics, technology, and computer science
• To explore the wide range of opportunities in science and technology by means of Saturday and vacation trips
• To provide hands-on experience in science and technology by means of an internship program
• To involve parents and area universities, businesses, and industry in support of our program and students

Students in the Oak Ridge and both The Woodlands attendance zones may apply to the Academy in the fall of the eighth grade. The faculty selection panel applies criteria that include grades, teacher recommendations, test scores, and interviews. All students must have completed Algebra I prior to starting 9th grade. Students in the ninth grade and beyond who are new to Conroe ISD are considered for admission based on the same criteria plus compatability of their course work with Academy requirements. If accepted, these students must meet all Academy graduation requirements.

Academy students may earn 30 or more credits during their four years in high school. Included in the program are two years of biology, chemistry and physics, scientific research and design, organic chemistry, anatomy and physiology, electronics, two years of computer science, digital graphics and animation, math through calculus. Explorations are done outside of the regular school day and internship. Some courses are Advanced Placement or Dual Credit with Lone Star College – Montgomery.

Students are required to complete a research project each year and may choose from Destination Imagination, Envirothon, Engineering Design competition Best Robotics, or FIRST robotics.
