Powerlifters Honored by CISD Board of Trustees

The Conroe Independent School District Board of Trustees gave special recognition to two 2017 Division I Boys’ Powerlifting State Champions at their meeting on Tuesday, April 18, 2017.

Conroe High School powerlifter Roy Kelley was named Division I Boys’ 198-lb Weight Class Powerlifting State Champion on Saturday, March 25, 2017, at the Taylor County Expo Center in Abilene, TX. Kelley’s combined lifts totaled 1,640 pounds, topping 32 other lifters. His totals in the three events were 665 (squat), 340 (bench), and 635 (dead lift). Dr. Mark Weatherly, Conroe High School principal, introduced Shawn Halloran and Corrian Thompson, Conroe High School powerlifting coaches, to the Board. The coaches presented Kelley to the Trustees.

Also recognized was The Woodlands High School powerlifter Gavin Webster who competed at the event in Abilene, TX. For the second year, Webster was named Division I Boys’ 148-lb Weight Class Powerlifting State Champion. Webster’s combined lifts totaled 1,475 pounds, 95 pounds more than his combined lifts for his 2016 championship. His totals in the three events this year were 585 (squat), 350 (bench), and 540 (dead lift). Mr. Gregg Colschen, The Woodlands High School principal, introduced Craig Smith, The Woodlands High School powerlifting coach, to the Board. Coach Smith presented Gavin Webster to the Trustees.

After presenting the students with their plaques, Trustee Datren Williams commented, “You guys have done an outstanding job. On behalf of Dr. Stockton and the School Board, we just can’t say enough about how proud we are of you. You represent us well.”
