Ray Sanders was elected to the Board in November, 2010, and currently serves as Board Secretary. Mr. Sanders has worked in the banking industry since 1984, and is a part-time counselor, with a private practice in The Woodlands. He has taught courses on personal finance, budgeting, conflict resolution, anger management, leadership, and has been a finance instructor for Sam Houston State University. He has also spoken publicly on issues of financial literacy, career development, and counselor education.
He earned a Bachelor of Business Administration in Finance and a Master of Arts in Counseling from Sam Houston State University. He completed post-graduate hours in Economics, Management, Real Estate, and Accounting at Sam Houston State University and The University of Houston-Clear Lake. He is a Texas Licensed Professional Counselor and a National Certified Counselor. Mr. Sanders has served as past Chairman of the South Montgomery County-Woodlands Chamber of Commerce Board and the Economic Development Partnership Board, and currently serves on the Board of Directors and Executive Committee for Interfaith of The Woodlands.
Mr. Sanders has been married for over 30 years and has two daughters. His oldest graduated from Baylor University with a degree in Management and works in The Woodlands, and his youngest graduated from Texas A & M University with a degree in Education and is a school teacher. He is also a member of The Woodlands United Methodist Church.
Mr. Sanders was raised by a family of school teachers who taught him the value of a public school education. “I feel very blessed to have had such a great family of educators that promoted education in our home. I know that education opens up opportunities for a bright future.”
Mr. Sanders’ term expires in 2018.
