Technology Applications Framework

Through the study of Technology Applications, students will: The  Technology Application TEKS  has four strands and is clustered into grades K-2 and 3-5 at the elementary level.
  1. Foundations
  2. Information acquisition

Addressing the TA TEKS:
The Information acquisition, Problem solving, and Communication strands can be addressed by including project-based learning activities that utilize technology in the regular classroom. These activities can be integrated into any content area at any grade level. There are four generic technology projects that address these strands:
  1. Electronic Research
  2. Word Processing
  3. Multimedia Projects
  4. On-line Projects
The Foundations strand can be addressed in two ways, either in a lab situation or within the regular classroom. Each campus has a unique technology plan that may incorporate a technology lab (given available space) or a spread of technology throughout all classrooms. Depending on the site-based decisions made at each campus, the means of addressing the Foundations strand may differ.

Covering the TA TEKS
A one page project-based perspective of technology activities and the specific TA TEKS addressed by each is available for each grade level cluster: This should guide each campus in their efforts towards integrating technology and addressing the TA TEKS.  Although sixth grade is designated as a middle school (6-8)  in the TEKS, it has been included in the 3-5 cluster since that meets the CISD grade levels divisions.

Benchmark Technology Competencies for students:
The Technology Applications TEKS are organized by benchmarks. Students should demonstrate proficiency with specific grade cluster TEKS before they exit the target grades 2, 5, and 8. Interim grade-level expectations are local definitions of strategies that build toward student success. At the high school level, there are opportunities for in-depth study of technology offered through a variety of courses. The benchmarks are suggested technology behaviors for students at each grade level:
