TEKS ANNOUNCEMENT FROM TEA

This July draft represents work produced by writing teams after compilation and
consideration of responses from the first round of review of each content area that took
place in March and April. Also included at this time are the first drafts of TEKS for Health
Education, Physical Education, and Career Orientation. Other changes in this document
include the designation of credit to be awarded for high school courses.

Each content area includes two response forms -- a general form that can be used with any
area, and a content-specific form that requests specific information from those readers who
would like to provide detailed responses. Each form designates a recipient to whom the
form should be sent, either on paper of electronically. Reviewers are encouraged to submit
either the general response form or the content-specific response form.

The review period for this draft takes place August 1 through September 3, 1996. In
addition to review by the field, community and parent involvement and review is being
sought during this review period. Education service centers have made arrangements for
town meetings to be held throughout each region. The education service centers will assist
school districts as well as parents and members of the community with the review process.
Your assistance in making copies of the TEKS available for review by parents and
members of your community will be appreciated.

Again, please encourage educators, parents, and others in your district to review the drafts.
