Conroe ISD Trustees Recognize Swimming and Diving Champions at Board Meeting

A group of teen girls stand with three adults and pose with plaques.The Conroe Independent School District Board of Trustees gave special recognition to athletes from The Woodlands High School’s Girls’ and Boys’ Swimming and Diving Teams at their meeting on Tuesday, March 20.

The Woodlands High School’s Girls’ Swimming and Diving Team competed in the 2018 6A State Championship at the Texas Swimming Center in Austin on Saturday, February 17, 2018.  The team competed against 52 6A teams and won the 2018 UIL Class 6A Girls’ Swimming and Diving State Championship for the second consecutive year.

Members of the swim team include Isabella Barrientos, Lauren Burch, Lucerito Cabrejos, Ainsley Everett, Madeline Kruchten, Lillian Nordmann, Lucie Nordmann, Caitlin Reynera, Sydney Roycraft, Alyssa Sorensen, Valerie Anne Staffeldt, and Vivian Yu.

The team won championships in several events at the meet. The 200-Yard Medley Relay team comprised of Lucie Nordmann, Caitlin Reynera, Lillie Nordmann, and Valerie Anne Staffeldt won the 2018 6A Girls’ State Championship and set a new state record when they finished the race in 1:40.87 seconds beating their previous state record of 1:41.83 seconds to claim their second consecutive state title.

Members of the 400-Yard Freestyle Relay team, Lucie Nordmann, Ainsley Everett, Madeline Kruchten, Sydney Roycraft, and Lillie Nordmann, won the 2018 6A Girls’ 400-Yard Freestyle Relay State Championship for the second consecutive year when they finished the race in 3:22.99 seconds, nearly four seconds faster than the second place team.

Lucie Nordmann won the 2018 6A Girls’ 200-Yard Freestyle State Championship by completing the race in 1:44.98 seconds. The same day, she also won her fourth consecutive 6A Girls’ 100-Yard Backstroke State Championship when she finished the race in 52.58 seconds.

The Woodlands High School’s Boys’ Swimming and Diving Team also made a strong showing at the meet when their 200-Yard Medley Relay team won the 2018 6A Boys’ State Championship with a time of 1:31.87 seconds. Members of the relay team are Alberto Gomez, Keenan Wolf, Tyler Hulet, and Luke Jorris.

The Woodlands High School Principal Mr. Gregg Colschen introduced Coach Jeremy Wade who presented the outstanding athletes along with Assistant Coach Kathryne Thom and Diving Coach Kevin Witt to the Board. Trustee John Husbands presented the state champions with plaques of recognition on behalf of the Board.
