Conroe ISD Students Win Big at Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo

On Saturday, March 5, 2016 at the NRG Center, Conroe ISD students were honored at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo (HLSR) Award Ceremony for their outstanding artwork.

Each year the HLSR School Art program gives more than $1 million to students in the form of scholarships, workshop opportunities, and awards. The program

culls 718 of the best student artwork from over 100 school districts and 60 private schools for display at the Hayloft Gallery for the duration of the rodeo. Sixty-two of the pieces, three of which were from Conroe ISD students, were selected for the art auction held on Sunday, March 13 at the NRG Arena. Conroe ISD had 12 student winners in all. They are as follows:

Anderson Elementary School
Belinda Rodriguez – Elementary Best of Show, Glassell Winner; “Getting Ready for Rodeo”

Caney Creek High School
Katrina Cumanan – High School Best of Show, Auction Lot #22; “Cow of Many Colors”

Giesinger Elementary School
Craig Prentice – Elementary Gold Medal; “You Looking at Me?”

McCullough Junior High School
Abby Bonzon – Junior High Best of Show; “Don’t Tread on Me”
Vinnie Tombari – Junior High Gold Medal; “The Old Western Wagon”

Oak Ridge High School
Marion Nece – High School Gold Medal; “Flowers at the Picnic”
Kallista Mertins – High School Special Merit; “Eye of the Land”
Kayla Whipple – High School Special Merit; “Chicken Scratch”

The Woodlands College Park High School
Jessica Zhang – High School Gold Medal, Auction Lot #32; “Flying High”
Morgan Newsoroff – High School Special Merit; “Synergy”

The Woodlands High School
Helen Wang – High School Special Merit; “Sunny Day”

In addition, the District was awarded the Super Show Award for the second consecutive year for outstanding presentation and organization of the Conroe ISD District Western Art Show.
