Conroe ISD Athletes Participate in Special Olympics Spring Games

Athletes from Conroe ISD’s Conroe Stars Team participated in the 2016 Area Special Olympics Track Meet at College Station High School in College Station on April 22 and 23. The Conroe Stars had 29 athletes compete in the event.

During the Opening Ceremonies, Aerianna Deluna, from Conroe High School, was presented with the Female Athlete of the Year award. On Friday, the three 4X100 meter relay teams each took first place in their divisions. The track and field events were followed by dinner and the “Victory Dance” on Friday evening. By the conclusion of the meet on Saturday, all 29 athletes had won at least one medal.

“These events are a great opportunity to bring together athletes and their families, Conroe ISD administration and staff, as well as members of our community in support of such a wonderful competition,” stated Conroe ISD Stars coach David Kight. “We are so proud of each and every one of our athletes.”

To qualify for the Spring Games, athletes had to compete at a local competition to advance. Of the 29 participati

ng athletes, 17 qualified for the State Meet that will be held Thursday, May 26 through Sunday, May 29 at the University of Texas at Arlington.
