During the July Board meeting, the Conroe Independent School District Board of Trustees gave special recognition to Katie Willard, a junior from The Woodlands High School. Katie won the 2012 State 5A 800 Meter Run at the Mike A. Myers Stadium in Austin on May 12, 2012.
With 200 meters to go, Willard moved from fifth to third place, however, she did not stop there. In the last 100 meter stretch, Katie advanced to first place and held the lead position to the finish line. The junior claimed the state title with a time of 2:10.31.
The Woodlands High School Principal, Mr. Gregg Colschen, introduced this talented and deserving young woman and her coach, Noel Hansen. The Board awarded Katie a plaque to commemorate and applaud her exceptional achievement.
