Conroe ISD Rewarded for Energy Efficiency

Conroe ISD celebrated the third year of participation in the Entergy Texas, Inc. SCORE Program with a check presentation at the February Board of Trustees meeting. The District accepted a check for $32,370 in SCORE Program incentives it earned for installing energy efficient air conditioning and lighting systems in seven facilities in 2011.

The SCORE Program helps schools save energy and money by providing no-cost facility improvement recommendations and financial incentives based on the total amount of energy the district will save. The high efficiency equipment installed in 2011 will save nearly 354,000 kilowatt-hours of energy annually, which is equal to the carbon dioxide emissions of more than 27,000 gallons of gasoline, according to U.S. Environmental Protection Agency calculations.

“We want to be good stewards to our tax payers and utilize the funds entrusted to us as efficiently as possible,” said John M. Schroeder, administrative director of custodial/maintenance. “In three years, we’ve already noticed a reduction in energy consumption.” Schroeder added that the district “can utilize the energy cost savings to improve services for our students.”
