Our students report and write wonderful stories about the great things happening on their campuses, and we want to spread the good news! The Communications Office is coordinating with secondary campuses to cover stories from a student's point-of-view.  All "Student Stories" are submitted by junior high or high school students.

Student Stories: One Patch at a Time

Each year, a select number of students earn a letterman jacket. The jackets are a symbol of academic and athletic achievement, granting each student a sense of accomplishment and recognition.
One hundred eighty-eight students received academic letters.
While students have yet to receive their letters, they were fitted and measured on Sept. 20. The jackets themselves, alterations made and patches sewn on, can be expected eight weeks from fitting day. Soon after, counselors and principals will present the jackets in a ceremony meant to recognize the achievements of those students.
Sophomore Darbie Cooper, who double lettered in agriculture and academics, looks forward to getting her letter jacket.
"They show school spirit and bring people involved in different things together," Cooper said.
These letters give the students the incentive, "to work towards qualifications," Lead Counselor secretary Dana Outlaw said.
These jackets can be earned in a variety of ways, be it through the maintenance of grades to maintain a combined average of 90 percent or above or through a longstanding commitment to an athletic or academic organization, such as FFA, Starlettes, cheerleading, football or other athletic teams. These members work hard throughout their high school careers to earn their letters and other patches. There are always new patches to earn and different qualifications to meet.
"I plan on earning my drill team patch," Cooper said, although she has already double lettered.
