Many Conroe ISD schools are participating in International Walk to School Month during the month of October. International Walk to School Month gives children, parents, educators, and community leaders an opportunity to be part of a global event that celebrates the many benefits of walking. International Walk to School Month began in the United States in 1997 as Walk to School Day, a one-day event aimed at building awareness for the need to walkable communities. Today, thousands of schools across America and in more than 40 countries worldwide celebrate Walk to School Month every October. Numerous Conroe ISD schools are holding their own Walk to School Day where walking or riding a bike to school is encouraged. Although the planned day is focused on walking, all forms of active transportation to school, such as bike riding, are encouraged.
