District News
Please join the combined Armed Services Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps (JROTC) of the Conroe Independent School District in a Salute to Our Veterans. The ceremony will begin at 9:30 a.m. on Friday, November 11, at Moorhead Stadium.

A flyover by a B-25 Mitchell Bomber will be provided by the Lone Star Flight Museum of Galveston.  The B-25 was a very versatile medium-duty bomber which flew in both the Pacific and European Theaters during World War II.

Austin Elementary School
Congratulations to students who entered the Pumpkin Design Contest. All of the entries were very creative. After the votes were counted, the following students were chosen as winners Sohpia Dumas, Jr. Sigala, Zachary Yeager, Corbin Everett, Vinny Delgado, Michael Brown, Luke Thibodeaux, Travis Jones, Paola Perez, and Angel Schave.

Kindergarten students took a field trip to P-6 Farms  as a culminating activity after studying farming.

Eddie Eagle is scheduled to visit PK and K students to teach important lessons about gun safety.

Broadway Elementary School
Librarian Mrs. Laurie Startz organized a successful Book Character Day with a "Wild about Reading," theme and a character parade by students. Our theme for this year is "Wild About Reading", and we began the day with a parade through the school, where we highlighted each grade level.

Kindergarten students recently dressed in 50's outfits and participated in a Sock Hop on the fiftieth day of school.

A and B honor roll students will celebrate with Principal Smith on November 3.  All A Honor Roll students will celebrate with a PTO sponsored breakfast on Friday, November 4.

Third grade will be presenting a program, "Salute to Veterans,"  on Thursday, November 10, at 6:30 p.m.  Area veterans are invited to join the celebration.

The program will be dedicated to the principal's cousin, Jeremy Smith, who gave the ultimate sacrifice in Afghanistan last March.

Buckalew Elementary School
Fred Jones Parent Edition "Tools for Teaching" is a proven set of skills that have been used successfully by teachers since 1969. The Parent Edition shares this positive, practical and low stress approach to creating the best learning environment possible for children. Each presentation centers on a theme that will help parents develop positive relationships with their children. This series begins on November 2 from 11 a.m. - 12 p.m. and will continue every Wednesday for six weeks. Contact the school if you are interested in taking this parenting class.

The third annual Elementary Science Night will be held in The Woodlands High School cafeteria on November 3 from 5-7 p.m.

The annual Fall Book Fair will take place November 14-18. There will be hundreds of books to choose from, including new favorites, old classics and Bluebonnet award winners. A preview of the Book Fair is scheduled November 7-11.

Bush Elementary School
Fall Book Fair! The school book fair will take place in the school's Activity Room starting on Monday, November, 7th from 8:00 AM until 3:30 PM Monday thru Thursday. The Fall Book Fair is scheduled November 7-11, closing at 10:30 a.m. on Friday.  The Book Fair will be available during Open House on Tuesday and Thursday.

Open House for Kindergarten, first, and fourth grades is Tuesday, November 8 at 6:30 p.m.

Open House for second and third grades is Thursday November 10 at 6:30 p.m.

Caney Creek High School
The Debate Team recently competed at the Kingwood High School Debate Tournament against 28 schools. Congratulations to Laura Coleman and Cheyenne Moore who competed in the finals round in Domestic Extemporaneous Speaking taking seventh and eighth place.  First time competitors are Fernanda Ramos and Dominique who competed in Varsity Public Forum Debate and Extemporaneous Speaking, Heather Harrison and Autumn Waldrep, who competed in Novice LD and Extemporaneous Speaking, and Morgan Aragon in Extemporaneous Speaking. Thanks to Cassie Mokahmi, Laura Coleman, Cheyenne Moore and Jacly Nguyen for helping the novice members and to Lauren Larive, Debate Team Manager, for making sure everything was prepared for tournament.

The following students have been elected to the 2011 Caney Creek Homecoming Court:  Freshman Duchess and Duke: Fernanada Ramos and Fernando Mendez; Sophomore Duchess and Duke: Bellanira Limon and Jake Williams; Junior Duchess and Duke: Brittany Wilson and Dylan Kendrick; Senior Class Representative Duchess and Duke: Liliana Serrato and Khristopher Smith; Senior Homecoming Queen Candidates: Sarah Durand, Kelsey Miller, Yadira Ortiz, Lindy Rogers, Tabitha Sanchez and Shelbie Woodman;  Senior Homecoming King Candidates: Austin Alexander, Luis Gomez, Ben Hernandez, Sebastian Riley, Jake Sweat, and Max Williams.

Students of the Month for October are Jasmin Ramirez and Guadalupe Juarez.

Collins Intermediate School
Student Council members are organizing a school wide food drive to benefit Interfaith of the Woodlands.  Learning Communities are competing with each other to bring the most food and fill the grocery carts located in each hallway. The grocery carts will be delivered to Interfaith in time for the Thanksgiving holidays.

Creighton Elementary School
Cookie Dough Delivery Day is November 3, from 2-6 p.m.

Third grade will visit the Spring Woods Nature Trail on Friday, November 4. The annual "Can a Kid" food drive begins November 7. Each student is asked to bring one can of food for the Montgomery County Food Bank.

The Fall Festival is Saturday, November 12 from 10-2 p.m.

David Elementary School
Students collected over 1,000 canned goods to donate to a local food bank during Red Ribbon Week.

Ford Elementary School
The PTO will have its general meeting at 9:30 am on Friday, November 4.  That same day Kids on the Block will present a cultural differences program to the first and second grade students.

Galatas Elementary School
The annual food drive will take place November 7 -17. Contributions will go to the Interfaith Food Pantry. ," a program which Conroe ISD Police Department began in 2002 to bring joy to children in the school community.

This year's fall fundraiser will be the Boosterthon Fun Run. It will kick off with a school-wide pep rally on Tuesday, November 8 at 2:15 p.m. and will conclude with the Boosterthon Fun Run Event.

Glen Loch Elementary School
Students and staff will be raising funds for the PTO by participating in the annual Gator Run on Friday, November 4. Pledges and donations will be used to support the learning environment of the school.

Grangerland Intermediate School
Fifth graders, Jordan Figge, Elvi Mendoza, and Joseph Wagnon, received a Golden Referral this week for displaying outstanding character. Sixth graders, Caitlyn Bellamy and Cheyenne Goodall, sang soprano solos at the CISD Solo and Ensemble Contest and were awarded first place medals. Orchestra student Brady Coon passed an audition for the Conroe Symphony Youth Orchestra.

The PTO Cookie Dough fundraiser runs until November 15.

Houston Elementary School
During Red Ribbon Week staff and students participated in special activities to take a stand against drugs. Daily themes included: wearing red to show "We have the power to say, No!"; sports shirts and jerseys for "Winners Don't Use Drugs"; "Put a Cap on Drugs" by wearing crazy hats; crazy socks were worn to "Sock it to Drugs"; and on Friday, school spirit shirts illustrated "Jet to Success … Be Drug Free."

Knox Junior High School
The Knox Band recently competed in Woodwind All-Region band auditions held at York Junior High. Twenty three students achieved the honor of being selected for the All-Region Band.

McCullough Junior High School
Congratulations to the following orchestra students who made the JH Region IX Orchestra: Tom Benavides, Michelle Butler, Christine Castagna, Brendon Egolf, Bin Haskell, Caroline Koch, Victoria Li, Matthew Liu, Erika McIntosh, Sofia Milosavljevic, Sydney Stobart, Matthew Webb, Jessica Zhang, Kristyn Hauser, Justin Mirazee, Yesaiah Ouzounian, and Matthew Havill.

Cheryl Pilgrim, McCullough JHS art teacher, won the 2011 Woodlands Wildflower Poster Contest with her watercolor entry. Posters are available on Market Street at the Art League Gallery.  Ellyana Long, an eighth grader won the student division and her design was printed on T-shirts, which are also available at the gallery on Market Street.

The seventh grade volleyball team held a Dig Pink/Beat Breast Cancer Pink Lemonade & Bake Sale this past Saturday and raised $727.50 to benefit breast cancer awareness.

Highlighted Highlander Award recipients for October were presented with certificates and treated to donuts and juice following a short ceremony. The Highlighted Highlander Award is given to those students who exemplify achievements warranting special recognition such as exhibiting a courteous and respectful attitude, performing a good deed, improved performance or exemplifying great leadership skills. Mitchell Intermediate School

Peet Junior High
Join students and teachers as they honor all Veterans on November 10. Two celebrations are planned at the school: the first one starting at 8:50 a.m. and the second starting at 9:55 a.m. All veterans from the community are invited to come and be recognized during the presentation.

Rice Elementary School
The fourth grade field trip will take place Wednesday, November 9. Students are off to view "Junie B. in Jingle Bells, Batman Smells!"

Tough K-6 School
Third grade physical education night will be in the gym at 6:30 p.m. Thursday November 3.

Wilkinson Elementary School
The winners of the Storybook Pumpkin Contest are: A.M. Pre K- Haylynn Matthewson; P.M. Pre K- Cadance Gleich;  Kindergarten- Sofia Keith and McKenzie Jimmerson;  First Grade- Katie Kowalik, Abi Koenig and Jett Taylor;  Second Grade- Delaney DeWitt;  Third Grade- Nathaniel Williams;  Fourth Grade- Ashlyn Real and Meghan Johnston; Best Family Pumpkins – Madison and Allison Gray; and the Teacher winners are Miss Chrissy Venditte and Mrs. Melinda Bales. The overall Grand Prize Storybook Pumpkin Contest Winners are Cora McCartney and Patrick Noravong.

Third grade will be performing the musical "Bones" Thursday, November 3 at 6 p.m. and then Friday, November 4 at 9 a.m.

Award-Winning author and illustrator, Nick Bruel, will be visiting the library all day Wednesday, November 16. Please contact Mrs. Michelle Vaughn to preorder one of his books to have autographed.

York Junior High School
The cross country teams had great success in the district cross country meet. Seventh grade boys took third overall. Seventh grade girls earned second place. Eight grade boys and girls each took second place. District champion for the seventh grade boys was Berry King. Valerie Diguilio took second place in the eighth grade girls division. Gustavo Sanchez came in sixth place in the eight boys.

The York JH Theater department will be performing "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" Nov 2, Nov 3 and Nov 7.  Performances begin at 7 p.m.

The CISD One Act Play festival is November 12 at Conroe High School.
