Campus Updates: December 11 – 17

Broadway Elementary
Welcome Back! Broadway is busy as ever during this holiday season. This Thursday, December 1, our fourth grade will be presenting “The Grumps” at 6:30 p.m.

 

On Friday, December 9, our students will be making Applesauce Ornaments.

 

Each grade level will celebrate the holidays with a class party on Thursday December 15 and we will wrap up the year with the story, “Polar Express”.

 

The following students received a Principal High Five award: Alexa Leopard, Chris Petersen, Arianna Luce, Helena Luke, Braden Sherbunrne, Ethan Vera, Oliver Mosenteen, Emily Gist, Addison Strahl and Jayden Canady.

 
Buckalew Elementary
December 15 is the fourth grade Musical Program featuring our fourth grade students. There will be a performance for the entire school in the morning and a 6:30 p.m. program for parents and friends.

 

December 16 is the famous and fun Jingle Bell Jog for all classes. Don’t forget to wear bells for the Jog. Holiday parties will take place in the morning. Early release is at 12:10 p.m. for all students.

 

Congratulations to our Keys for Success Winners for the week of November 28. They are Jackson Allen for being proactive and putting first things first, Marie Seifert for being proactive and always doing what is right, Mason Dutton for putting first things first, Andrew Stroud for synergizing by sharing a book with another student, and Avery Lehr for beginning with the end in mind by working hard in class and taking on extra class challenges.

 
Bush Elementary
Each month a student from each class, who exhibits the character trait of the month, is selected to receive the Paws for Pride Award. These students are each presented with a medal at a recognition ceremony attended by their parents. California Pizza Kitchen will have a share night on December 11, benefitting our Parent Teacher Organization.

 

The Holiday Parties will be on December 15.

 

Friday, December 16 is the end of the grading period. On this day, we will have an early release, at 12:10 p.m.

 
Collins Intermediate
December 13 and December 14 Junior Achievement Training.

 

December 14, 9:30 a.m., fifth and sixth grade Collins Band performance at Collins.

 

December 14, 6:30 p.m., the Collins Orchestra will perform at College Park High School.

 

December 15, 9:30 a.m., the Collins Orchestra will perform at Collins.

 

December 15, 6 p.m. the Collins fifth grade Band will perform and at 7:15 p.m. the sixth grade Band will perform at the College Park High School.

 

December 16, will be early release for Collins students.

Cox Intermediate

Creighton Elementary
Wednesday, December 14, students may wear their pajamas to school. We will be featuring The Polar Express and serving hot chocolate. Students will also make their own Christmas tree ornament with the help of parent volunteers.

 

Friday, December 16, students will be released at 12:05 p.m. Have a happy and safe holiday!

 

David Elementary
David Elementary fourth graders will perform The Polar Express on Tuesday, December 13 at 2 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. The fourth grade students look forward to participating in this traditional program each year.

 

David would like to congratulate this year’s Ambassador Award Winners. Our student recipient was Lola Dumlao. The teacher recipient was Jennifer Brown and the paraprofessional recipient was Janet Zhang. Congratulations!

 

Giesinger Elementary
Tuesday, December 13, third graders will be taking a field trip to Rainbow Roller Rink.

 

On Wednesday, December 14, Kona Ice will be on campus. Students will be able to purchase a Kona Ice treat during recess for $3. This is a fund raiser for our school.

 

Friday, December 16, is an early release day. Students will be released at 12 p.m. Morning Pre-K/PPCD students will attend school from 8 to 10 a.m. Afternoon Pre-K/PPCD students will attend school from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.

 

Hailey Elementary
Attendance counts for every child every day. Congratulations to Mrs. Shaw’s and Mrs. Sanders’ classes for achieving 10 Attendance Rockets for the whole class being on time and staying at school all day!

 

Second grade is holding their annual toy drive through December 13. Please send unwrapped toys to contribute to this worthy local effort.

 

The third grade classes will hold their annual Economics Fair Thursday, December 15 during the school day. This is an activity in which students learn the concepts of economic exchange and create their own products to market. The students must select a product, create the product, advertise the product, and price it to sell. The third grade students earn “money” for good behavior and completing their work. The more money they earn, the more money they can spend when the items go on sale at the Economics Fair.

 

Friday, December 16 is a district-wide early release day. Students will be dismissed at 12:10 p.m. according to their normal transportation arrangements. Students will eat lunch at school before dismissal and are encouraged to bring a sack lunch on this day. Lunch will be sold in the cafeteria as usual.

 

Friday, December 16 is the deadline for Gifted and Talented testing nominations to be turned in.

 

CISD will observe the winter holiday break Monday, December 19 through Monday, January 2. Students resume classes according to the normal schedule Tuesday, January 3, 2017. We wish all our Hailey community a very happy and safe holiday season.

 

Our Lost & Found collection is growing and will be cleared out for donation over the winter holiday. Please visit the Lost & Found collection when you are on campus for daytime or evening events, and encourage your child to retrieve their personal belongings during the school day. Please write your child’s name in their jackets, sweaters, and lunch boxes.

 

Students can bring aluminum cans, foil, pans, and aluminum computer parts for recycling every Friday morning for our Cash for Cans program, which also helps support our school. Please deliver recyclables to the front porch when arriving at school.

 

Irons Junior High
Choir Concert will be Monday, December 5 at Oak Ridge Baptist Church at 7 p.m.

 

Band Concert will be Tuesday, December 6 at Irons Junior High at 7 p.m.

 

Irons Junior High is proud to recognize the following “Students of The Week” for their academic or social achievements.

 

Team Mind over Matter would like to recognize Andrew Robinson for student of the week for Mrs. Meyers’ Language Arts class. Andrew is a very responsible student and sets a positive example to those around him through his citizenship and hard work. Way to go Andrew!

 

The learning team “Zombie Slayers” would like to recognize Ethan Mildren as Student of the Week. He has a great work ethic, always comes to school with a great attitude, and is super helpful to everyone around him.

 

Coach Pell would like to recognize his 5th Period class for being hard workers and Showing concern for their classmate who is out sick.

 

The learning team “Black Hawks” would like to recognize Macayla Morgan for having a great work ethic.

 

Artists of the week from Mrs. Kane are Andrew Patrick, Esther Cholico, Natalia Pilay, Shailey Lacock, and Moriah Rodriguez.

 

These students participated in the 2016 All-Region Orchestra Clinic and Concert on November 18-19 at Klein Forest HS.

The eighth grade Lady Hawks Star Athlete of the Week is Taelyn Johnson.

 

Kaufman Elementary
Students are still encouraged to bring in a new or gently used book to put under the Kaufman Giving Tree in exchange for an ornament, Monday, December 12 through Wednesday, December 14. All books will be donated to the Montgomery County Women and Children’s shelter in hopes of bringing the gift of reading into the lives of those families having difficulties this time of year.

 

Tuesday, December 13 half of fourth grade will be taking a field trip to Jesse H. Jones Park and Nature Center.

 

On Wednesday, December 14, first graders will be wearing their pajamas to school so that they can curl up and enjoy Mrs. Kaufman reading The Polar Express, which is a Christmas tradition at Kaufman.

 

Thursday, December 15, Kindergarten will enjoy Holidays around the World activities and have Christmas parties. The other half of fourth grade will attend the field trip to Jesse H. Jones Park and Nature Center. Also on this day, the Parent Teacher Organization will hold a luncheon for teachers.

 

Friday, December 16 is a half day. First through fourth grade will have their Christmas parties which begin at 9 a.m.

 

Mitchell Intermediate
The Choir Holiday Concert will be held on Tuesday, December 13 at 7:30 p.m. at McCullough Junior High School.

On Wednesday, December 14, the Mitchell Community Service Club will sponsor a Crust Pizza Spirit Day at the Alden Bridge location. The proceeds will benefit the Mitchell Scholarship Fund.

The Fine Arts Department will present a Holiday Concert for Mitchell Students on Thursday, December 15. The sixth grade will perform at 9 a.m. and the fifth grade at 2:30 p.m.

The Orchestra Classes will perform their Holiday concert on Thursday, December 15. The fifth grade concert will begin at 6:30 p.m. The sixth grade concert will begin at 7:30 p.m.

December 16 marks the end of the 2nd Quarter.

December 16 is an Early Release day. School will begin dismissal at 12:45 p.m.

 

Powell Elementary
The Parent Teacher Organization will meet December 13 at 11 a.m. in the Activity Room. All parents are invited to attend.

 

First grade students will celebrate Polar Express day December 16 in their classrooms. Students are encouraged to wear pajamas to school and enjoy reading activities throughout the day.

 

We will have early release December 16. School will end at 12:05 p.m. We will follow an adjusted lunch and recess schedule that day.

 

Rice Elementary
Rice fourth grade students will present their music program on Friday, December 9 at 9 a.m.

 

Saturday, December 10 will be our Rice Cycle Reading Incentive delivery day.

 

Our third grade GT students will have an expo in the library on Monday, December 12.

 

Polar Express Day will be Thursday, December 15.

 

Thursday, December 15 our third graders will host their culture fair in the library.

 

Holiday desserts will be enjoyed by each class on Friday, December 16.

 

Snyder Elementary
Our Holiday Shoppe will continue through Friday.

 

Please join us for the third grade Holiday Program at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday December 8.

 

We will celebrate the holidays with our winter parties on Friday December 16.

 

Travis Intermediate
Please join us for our winter concert on Tuesday, December 13 at 6 p.m. in the Travis Auditorium. Our band, orchestra, and choir students have an exciting holiday performance planned for all to enjoy.

 

Kona Ice will be visiting the school on Thursday, December 15. Students may purchase for $3.

 

Our fine arts and physical education team will be hosting a FAPE Festival fundraiser on Thursday, December 15. This fun event for students will include basketball, dodgeball, soccer, board games, Nerf wars, face painting and concessions. Students participating will stay after school until the event ends at 6 p.m. Information will be sent home in Tuesday folders.

 

Washington Junior High
The Winter Choir Concert will be December 13 at 6:30 p.m.
